If you enjoy baking your own bread, cookies, or good wholesome nourishing fruit pies, here are some fine recipes. Your family will enjoy every morsel of our fine whole wheat fruit pies, and once they become accustomed to the nutritious whole grain foods, they will never again ask for the pale, unwholesome white flour products.
whole wheat health bread 1 cup whole wheat flour, I cup grated carrots, 1 cup raisins, 2 tbsp. honey, 1 grated apple, 2 tbsp. soybean oil, 2 tbsp. water, or apple juice, or prune juice, or orange juice, or unsweetened pineapple juice. (Prune juice will make bread look darker.)
Blend shortening and honey. Add carrots, apple, raisins, and flour. Mix and add water. Roll out slightly and fold or make into loaf. In folding, spread a little honey on surface. For the loaf, spread honey on top with a brush. Bake in medium oven about 40 minutes. whole wheat raisin cookies 2 cups whole wheat flour, j cup chopped raisins, 21 tbsp. honey, 8 tbsp. soybean oil, 1 cup milk, 1 cup water, or any of the fruit juices mentioned in the previous recipe.
Blend shortening and honey. Add raisins. Sift flour and mix. Add milk and water or fruit juice gradually. Dip hands in flour and make long rolls from dough. Dip knife in cold water and cut -inch-thick slices. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake 15 minutes. whole wheat banana cookies 2 cups whole wheat flour, 1 mashed banana, 3 tbsp. honey, 8 tbsp. soybean oil, 1 cup milk, 1 cup water or fruit juice.
Mix honey and shortening. Add banana. Sift flour. Blend. Add liquid, forming a fairly soft dough. Dip hands in flour and make long rolls from dough. Dip knife in cold water and cut rolls into thin slices. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake 15 minutes in medium oven. fruit jelly roll 2 dozen prunes, 1 mashed banana, 2 tbsp. honey, 1 cup raisins, 2 shredded apples, juice of 1 lemon, or more if desired.
Soak primes until soft, then cut them into bits. Mix all ingredients together. Prepare whole wheat pastry dough (see below) and form 3 balls. Flour board and roll out each ball into rectangular shape. Spread mixture all over dough and roll up as for jelly roll. Dip knife in cold water and cut the roll into 1-inch pieces. Place pieces on flat side on greased pan and bake in medium oven for 25 minutes. whole wheat pastry dough (Master recipe for all pastries and pies) 2 cups whole wheat flour, 7 tbsp. soybean oil, 1 tbsp. honey, 6 or 7 tbsp. cold water, or fruit juice. Use master recipe for whole wheat pastry dough, and form three balls. Roll out each ball into rectangular shape. Brush surface with oil.
Spread with a mixture of ground nuts, shredded apples, raisins, and honey. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon. Roll up, pinch ends, and bake in greased pan for 30 minutes. Slice after removing from oven. vegetable loaf cake r glassful wheat germ, 1 cup raw sugar, 1 bunch carrots (grated fine).
Mix ingredients together thoroughly and place in greased baking dish. Bake in medium oven for about 25 minutes, or until brown. Serve with honey and stewed or raw berries. Serves six. whole wheat apple pie 2 cups whole wheat flour, 6 or 7 tbsp. cold water or fruit juice, 6 or 7 apples, 21 tbsp. honey, 8 tbsp. soybean oil, wheat germ (as needed).
Sift flour and blend in with fork until mealy. Add water or fruit juice and form two balls. Meanwhile, slice apples thin and mix with half of honey and shortening. Roll out one ball of dough on floured board. Dab flour on rolling pin to prevent sticking. Line pie plate, leaving an extending edge. Sprinkle with wheat germ and lay on apple slices, then add balance of honey and shortening.
Roll out another ball of dough, place on top, tucking the edges within the lower crust. Fold extending edge over top and press with a fork all around, making a fluted edge that will keep the juices in. Pierce a couple of holes in top of crust. Bake in very hot oven for 10 minutes, then lower flame to medium for 35 minutes more.
(Note: This recipe may be used to make pies with other fruits or berries.) open face deep fruit pie 1 cup whole wheat flour or 1 cup whole wheat and 1 cup soy flour, | shredded wheat biscuit, 2 tbsp. brown or raw sugar or honey, 1 cup soybean oil, 2 lbs. ripe apples, J cup raisins (dark), 2 lbs. ripe peaches, 3 ripe bananas.
Mix flour and sugar or honey. Fold shortening (oil) into flour with a knife. Make into ball and wrap in wax paper. Place in refrigerator for 3 or 4 hours or overnight.
When ready to make pie, grease pan. Roll dough as for regular pie, sprinkling with a little whole wheat flour to make sure that rolling pin does not stick.
Crumble shredded wheat and spread over dough that has been fitted away and fastened to the edge with a fork. Cut surplus dough with knife. Slice apples, to which a little cinnamon may be added, and spread over shredded wheat.
Spread raisins over apples. Slice and place bananas on raisins. Slice peaches and spread over bananas. Sprinkle with grated or shredded coconut. Place into pan and lay a piece of brown paper loosely on top to prevent the fruit from burning.
Bake from 30 to 45 minutes in moderate oven, removing paper the last 10 or 15 minutes. Remove from fire and add honey to top of fruit, if more sweetening is desired. Serves eight.
